Shoot Day - Cutaways

Location 1 - Staindrop Road - EXT Shots.

When shooting for our cutaways we began to collect the exterior car shots first, having our actress Beth drive past where we set up our camera numerous times in order to collect a range of camera angles and distances.

We then headed to the pub location, as a few days previous i spoke to one of the managers of the pub in order to have permission to film there, agreeing on the time of 1pm to begin filming. 

On the way to the pub we also collected a range of interior shots of Beth driving the car, as well as some closeups of the wheel, gear changes, and her face. We made sure to collect a large variety/range of footage when filming this as we knew we would only have this time to film for continuity purposes and we wanted to have a range of shots to choose from when it came to editing.

When we arrived at the pub we first began filming the cup section of the scene as we knew this would prove to be the most difficult and would require the most number of takes in order to get it right. As i knew what would be needed from an editing perspective i filmed this section, directing Beth to throw the cup at the actor, Adam as though there was actual water in it. I then directed her and Adam to freeze in place, allowing me to pan around the cup, so that when editing it on After Effects i could add the 'frozen water effect'.

We then filmed the rest of the pub shots, including Beth bursting through the doors and then approaching Adam prior to throwing the water on him. Aidan filmed this section as he was able to move the camera using the Steadicam more fluently, allowing for a smoother shot. He directed Beth to burst through the pub doors, however we were not able to do this too quickly as to not disturb the customers in the pub, therefore Aidan suggested that we simply speed the shot up in post production.
