Special Effects

For our music video we are wanting to include various special effects within our cutaways:
- We are considering using a 'frozen in time' effect for when the female throws a drink on her husband/boyfriend.
- We also want to have a car crash at the end of our music video - we will have to research thoroughly how to do this safely yet also effectively.
Therefore i have been researching into tutorials on YouTube for After Effects:

- I have found this tutorial which explains how to do the effect we wish to achieve within or cutaways. - The effect is quite advanced so we will have to take some test shots soon in order to see if i can recreate the effect to a high standard.
- This effect will also be very time consuming to create, therefore we will have to ensure that we leave enough time to complete it when editing.

- I have also found this tutorial which explains how to pull off an effective 'car crash' safely. The video explains that you can film the effect by having the car start at the wall/fence it is going to crash into and then get them to reverse away from it. When editing you the speed up and reverse the footage so that it looks like they are driving quickly towards the wall.
- We will also have to collect some test footage for this in order to find out if we can recreate the shot effectively.

Lighting

When shooting our music video we intend to use a low key lighting set up therefore we needed to research into this and how to create it effectively. We had a look on Youtube and managed to find a variety of different videos that explain how to get effective shots using minimal lighting in various scenarios. 

The two videos above show how easy and effective just one light can be when taking your footage. In our own music video we will be using more than one light but by looking at these videos they will help for an effective outcome. 


This video goes into detail about the lighting in Film Noir. Even our music video will not be as dark as a film noir, we will take inspiration and similar techniques. For example, in Film Noir shadow is very prominent so when filming our own video, we can benefit from the shadows. This makes the video more moody and creates a dark atmosphere, representing the song.
