Inspirational Genre Videos

'In My Place' by Coldplay:

• This video follows a very simple theme throughout, which in itself is a convention of the 'alternative' genre.
• The video is simply the band performing in a large open space, their costumes follow the convention of also being very simple, and of a dark colour scheme.
• The convention of lots of closeups is also apparent in this video - there are numerous closeups of both the lead singer and all the other band members playing their instruments.
• This video would be relatively easy to reconstruct as it follows a very simple concept - I may choose to also keep my video simple and just have my band playing in a studio, however i would also like to have some cutaways in my video.

'Counting Stars' by OneRepublic:

• This video in many ways is also similar to the Coldplay one, in that it also follows a simple concept throughout, however this video also has cutaways in between the band performing which i like.
• The video overall follows many of the 'alternative' conventions in that the band are performing in a simple/edgy location - what looks to be and abandoned warehouse.
• The band members costumes also follow the conventions of a dark colour scheme - they're all wearing dark trousers and tshirts/jackets.
• Another convention the video appear to follow is the quickening of the editing pace during the chorus - as the tempo of the music picks up, the length of the shots shortens.
• I particularly like this video as it has a nice editing rhythm throughout, I also like the fact that it includes cutaways in order to keep the audience engaged.
